June is National Indigenous History Month and we’re taking the time to honour and celebrate the cultures, traditions, and experiences of Indigenous peoples across Canada. For us, that starts with listening, learning, and reflecting together as a community. 🪶 At WSNCC and BGC West Scarborough, we are committed to reconciliation and to creating spaces where every community member feels seen and valued. Yesterday we welcomed over 100 seniors to WSNCC for our Seniors Month Appreciation Event and Luncheon and what an afternoon it was! 🌸❤️ Our guests enjoyed a catered lunch, great company, and a special fire safety presentation from torontofireservices that was both informative and a lot of fun. WSNCC operates on land that is the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples and is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. We acknowledge that Toronto is covered by Treaty 13 signed with the Mississaugas of the Credit, and the Williams Treaties signed with multiple Mississaugas and Chippewa bands. We also acknowledge all Treaty peoples – including those who came here as settlers – as migrants either in this generation or in generations past and those who came here involuntarily, particularly as a result of the trans-Atlantic slave trade.
