Scholarship Opportunities


Nadine Pendleton Educational

Bursary Fund

The West Scarborough Neighbourhood Community Centre is pleased to offer an educational bursary in memory of Nadine Pendleton.


Nadine contributed over 40 years of service to the West Scarborough Neighbourhood Community Centre before she sadly passed away on August the 26th of 2015. She was a loyal and valued employee and was always appreciated for her experience as a colleague and friend and it is with sadness, but great hope that this scholarship will offer support and inspire excellence in her memory.


Scholarship Value:                 3 Scholarships of $2,000

Application Deadline:           June 30, 2023

Results Announced:              July 31, 2023


Eligibility to Apply:


  • Must be applying for support to pursue post-secondary education (e-learning courses are acceptable) for any eligible year of attendance at any recognized University, College or Ministry approved Private College or training facility
  • Provide proof of acceptance into the University, College or training facility
  • Be a member, volunteer or staff of the West Scarborough Neighbourhood Community Centre
  • Be registered in a full time program when the award is issued


Application Process:


  1. Ensure that you meet all eligibility requirements
  2. Submit one written evaluation or letter of reference from a suitable referee (e.g. a teacher or counsellor familiar with your work and goals)
  3. Submit a 500-1000 word essay, answering the following question:

a)       How has being part of the West Scarborough Neighbourhood Community Centre prepared you for post-secondary education?

b)       What do you hope to accomplish while attending the educational facility?

c)        If you receive the bursary how do you plan to use the funds?

BGC Canada Scholarships

BGC Canada is pleased to offer postsecondary scholarships to eligible youth Club members from across Canada.


To be eligible for a scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria: 

 

  1. Be a current or former BGC member for a minimum of 1 year. 
  2. Be a maximum of 24 years of age at the time of application. 
  3. Be pursuing some form of full-time or part-time postsecondary education (e.g. college, university, or trades school; diploma, degree, apprenticeship, or another program) at an accredited post-secondary institution in Canada in September 2022 or January 2023. The program must be one year in length at minimum. 
  4. Applicants may apply at any stage of their pursuit of post-secondary education.

Youth of the Year

Youth of the Year is a national initiative celebrating youth leadership and achievement at BGC Clubs across Canada. Youth of the Year aims to foster strong BGC ambassadors and build capacity for Clubs to support more youth leaders in their communities.


Club youth ages 15-21 are encouraged to apply for Youth of the Year by submitting written responses and a video showcasing their achievements, service, and leadership to their Club, school, and community.

Best Buy Grade 10 Scholarships

In partnership with BGC Canada and Best Buy Canada, we are pleased to offer assistance in helping youth apply to the Best Buy Grade 10 scholarship. This opportunity is eligible for Club members in grade 10 to support their successful completion of high school and enrolment in post-secondary education.


Each scholarship recipient receives:

  • $4,000 in trust with BGC Canada to be paid to post-secondary institution upon completion of secondary school
  • $750 Best Buy Gift Card for purchase of a laptop
  • $250 paid to your Club to assist with covering application fees and other expenses


To be eligible for a scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a current or former BGC Canada member for a minimum of 1 year
  • Be in Grade 10 at the time of application
  • Have a Nomination Form completed by a staff member at their Club



CIBC Youth Accelerator Scholarship - Now Closed


Ted Rogers Scholarship Fund - Now Closed

BGC Canada is pleased to partner with the Ted Rogers Scholarship Fund to offer post-secondary scholarships to eligible youth members planning to enter, or returning to, full-time or part-time post-secondary studies in September 2023/January 2024 in their first degree or diploma program, and pursuing some form of full-time or part-time post-secondary education (e.g. college, university or trades school; diploma, degree, apprenticeship, or other program) at a Canadian educational institution which has recognized provincial degree/diploma-granting powers, or their affiliates (e.g. universities, colleges/CEGEP).


Programs must be a minimum of 2 years in length.


Eligibility to Apply:

To be eligible for a TRSF scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Be a current or former BGC Club member for a minimum of 1 year
  2. Be a maximum of 29 years of age at the time of application
  3. Be planning to enter, or returning to full-time or part-time post-secondary studies in September 2023/January 2024 in your first degree or diploma program



Storwell Foster Children Bursary

Storwell Self Storage offers an annual $2,000 bursary to help foster children attend post-secondary schools and to offer a hand up as they make their way forward in life.
