  • Pool Facilities

West Scarborough Swimming Pool, at 313 Pharmacy Avenue between St. Clair East and Danforth Avenue is a heated 20 yard pool, maintained at 86°F / 30°C.

The warm water quality is a perfect learning environment for young swimmers and offers therapeutic qualities to swimmers seeking aquatic fitness and rehabilitation programs, as well as novel and master swimmers of any age.

  • Changing Rooms

Children seven years and under are permitted to use the changing room of the opposite gender.

Children eight years and over are expected to change in the appropriate changing room.

Unfortunately, West Scarborough Swimming Pool does not have a family changing facility. Please speak to a facility staff on duty if you require alternate accommodation.

  • Accessibility

We welcome swimmers with special needs to our facilities and programs.

West Scarborough Swimming Pool is accessible to swimmers with mobility devices.

  • Lane Swim Etiquette

    1. Judge the pace - Take a minute to gauge the speed of other swimmers and pick a lane accordingly.

    2. Foot tapping - It’s the universal gesture among club swimmers - if you want to overtake, gently touch the toes of the swimmer in front (they should pause at the end of the lane to let you pass). Trouble is, not everyone knows this custom. This is the most common cause of arguments during lane swim.

    3. Resting at the end of a lane - Stay tucked into the corner if resting between sets so other swimmers have room to turn and push off.

    4. Use common sense - Lane etiquette is about awareness of others rather than a set of rules.

    5. Lane rage - If it looks like tensions are brewing, just remember that most people would appreciate a conversation more than being cut up or aggressively toe-tapped. Be polite and speak to a lifeguard if necessary. Swimming is the only place where busy life and emails can’t get to us. It should be a calm place, so it’s a shame when that is ruined.

  • Pool Closures

West Scarborough Swimming Pool closes during extreme weather only if Toronto District School Board warrants a snow day.

Even though at times it may seem minor, following a pool fouling or accident, the pool must close for a minimum period determined by the Pool Operator. Unfortunately, no make up sessions for pool fouling will be offered, unless notified otherwise. This may only change if more than two sessions are missed due to pool closure.

  • Photography

Photo/videos may be taken of your own family. Permission to take photographs must be granted by a facility manager or pool supervisor prior to taking any photo/videos.

    Underwater photography is not permitted.

The use of electrical devices, including cellular phones and personal digital assistants, is prohibited in the changing and washing areas, and all areas of this swimming facility without prior consent of a manager or pool supervisor.

  • Correct Dress

    ~ long or short-sleeved t-shirt made from Lycra/Spandex/Polyester

~ shorts or tight fitted leggings over the swimsuit

All clothing worn must be clean. Clothing must allow the user to participate safely in the pool. Street clothes, shoes, bathing suits with zippers/metal pieces and undergarments are not permitted.

If you are unsure of the appropriate swim wear, please check with the Aquatic Supervisor.

If your child is under the age of 2, or is not potty trained, s/he must wear a fitted swim diaper. The pool must shut down for every accident, so please adhere to this rule strictly.

  • Deck Access

The pool deck is not design to accommodate spectators. For those waiting for a swim program, please wait in the changing rooms until 3-4 minute before your swim time. Please stay with your child until they are with their Instructor. Children under 7 are not permitted to wait on the deck unaccompanied by an adult.

When you visit the deck, please remove your shoes before walking through the shower area.

Under special circumstances, we may permit a parent to be on the pool deck during the first day of lessons. Typically, swimmers too distracted when parents are around!

Please feel free to observe from the viewing gallery; however please refrain from communicating with your children from the gallery as this causes further distraction.

  • Deep Water Swim Test

    1. Swimmer must demonstrate the ability to swim 2 widths of the pool non-stop.

    2. At the discretion of a Lifeguard staff, swimmer must demonstrate the ability to treat water for 60 seconds

  • Eating Before Swimming

Under no circumstances should children consume food or drink before entering the pool.

It is recommended that children are provided with a healthy snack after swimming (e.g. granola, juice, fruit etc).

All pool foulings result in pool closure and loss of time in the pool. We adhere to this rule very strictly.

  • Bringing Your Own Equipment

  • General Health & Safety Rules
